“On Pins and Needles?”

Doctors of Chiropractic - More than Just the Back and Neck

I have realized lately that I have been remiss in educating even my closest acquaintances on the scope of what we do as Doctors of Chiropractic.  Although spinal pain is the day-to-day routine for Chiropractors, it is very far from the scope of our education. This realization occurred to me when my acquaintances began to tell me that they are having symptoms like numbness, tingling, burning, pins and needles, and/or weakness in the arms, hands, legs, or feet and they need to speak to their doctor about their symptoms.  The inference with these comments is that, as a Doctor of Chiropractic, we don't deal with these sorts of problems.  The fact is, those acquaintances just simply don’t know the scope of education and conditions that we as Doctors of Chiropractic are able to treat. And we, as a profession, have failed to educate the public at large!  Guys, let me be clear, this is our wheelhouse!

The symptoms mentioned above are often neurological and emanating from the spine.  It is true that some chiropractic practices focus purely on spinal pain, but others choose to specialize in more complicated conditions affecting the peripheral nervous system.  The latter is the where my brother and I have chosen to direct our patient offerings.  In fact, the bulk of our practice (90-95%) is in treating patients with these very complicated spine and joint conditions.

Conservative Management

The mistake that patients often make is thinking that these problems require a surgical solution.  Sometimes they do, but many times they do not.  A good paradigm of operation with health-related conditions is to seek conservative measures first.  More times than not, we can have significant positive clinical outcomes for patients using our conservative, but advanced clinical treatments.  As I indicated earlier, this is the norm for our clinic rather than the exception.

If you are having these types of neurological symptoms and want a potentially non-surgical solution, you have absolutely nothing to lose by speaking with either me or Dr. Randy concerning your condition.  We can order, interpret, and educate you on the various diagnostic images you may need or already possess.  We stand at the ready for you.
