Headaches and Migraines

HEADACHES / MIGRAINES

There are many different types of headaches each with different causative agents.  Many headaches are caused by muscle tension, nerve compression, or spinal misalignments in the neck region.  These causes often take their source in postural abnormalities from our work, school, or home environments.  Other headaches are caused from hormonal imbalances or dietary sensitivities.  Resolution of headaches requires careful evaluation and elimination of the underlying causes of the headache.

Spinal Stenosis

SPINAL STENOSIS

Spinal stenosis is a problem that about 50% of Americans will have by the time they reach the age of 70. Spinal stenosis is the narrowing down of the opening where the spinal cord travels.  Common symptoms of Spinal Stenosis are pain, numbness, tingling, burning, and/or weakness in the legs. They often feel pain in the back, but sometimes they won't feel pain at all.  At Health 1st Wellness & Physical Medicine, a typical treatment for Spinal Stenosis would include non-surgical Spinal Decompression Therapy.

Degenerative Disc Disease

DEGENERATIVE DISC DISEASE

Spinal discs serve a valuable role in providing cushioning in your spine and are normally soft and compressible.  As a component of the aging process, spinal discs can dehydrate and flatten.  This leads to a decrease in the space between the spinal vertebra potentially resulting in the development of osteoarthritis, a herniated disc, or spinal stenosis.  Health 1st Wellness & Physical Medicine employs the use spinal decompression technology with gentle chiropractic techniques and nutritional guidance to help the discs regain nourishment and heal.

Numbness, Tingling, Burning in Arms or Legs

RADICULOPATHY

NUMBNESS / TINGLING / BURNING IN ARMS OR LEGS

Degenerative changes in the spine often lead to impinged spinal nerves in the upper and lower portions of the spine.  In the neck region, the impingement will lead to symptoms in the arms and hands.  In the low back region, the impingement will lead symptoms in the legs and feet.  This situation is referred to in healthcare setting as a radiculopathy.  Although chiropractic techniques can be helpful in relieving the pain experienced in the low back, our clinic employs the use of spinal decompression to achieve longitudinal decompression of the spinal discs and relieve nerve pressure.

Sciatica

SCIATICA

Sciatica is a form of radiculopathy (sciatic radiculopathy) as discussed above.  In fact, it is classified as a compressive neuropathy.  Pressure placed on the sciatic nerve from degenerative spinal changes will often lead to weakness, pain, numbness, and/or tingling in the buttock, leg, or foot region.  Although it sounds simple, the treatment must be comprehensive to overcome the symptoms and bring about long-term results.  Our clinic employs a multimodal treatment approach that includes spinal decompression, gentle and targeted chiropractic adjustments, myofascial release, and core stabilization exercises to achieve excellent and dependable results.  Further, we work closely to educate our patients in the lifestyle risk factors that lead to this condition.

Shoulder Pain

SHOULDER PAIN

Shoulder pain is a very common complaint in our clinic.  The shoulder joint is the most mobile joint in the body.  Unfortunately, with great mobility comes less stability.  Thus, the shoulder joint is often injured.  In many cases, changes in the patient’s activity that led to the injury can be modified to help overcome the injury.  Along with a proper rehabilitation regimen, most shoulder injuries can be overcome.  Health 1st Wellness & Physical Medicine utilizes the latest in physiotherapy modalities, such as cold laser, ultrasound, interferential current, and Rapid Release Technology (RRT) to help speed along the recovery process.  Furthermore, our in-clinic massage therapist is utilized to provide specific medical massage to the shoulder joint to reduce scar tissue and restore proper joint mechanics.

Autoimmune Disorder

AUTOIMMUNE DISORDERS

Autoimmune disorders are as numerous as the various tissues in the body and are on the rise in the United States.  Autoimmune disorders are incurable, but the symptoms associated with autoimmunity can be attenuated with proper identification of the underlying causative agents leading to the hyper-immune response and misrecognition of the body’s own tissues.  Our clinicians have advanced training in functional medicine protocols and access to highly sensitive blood chemistry labs to help diagnose the underlying condition and locate the agents that lead to a hyper-immune response.  With this information, our clinicians can guide patients in lifestyle, environment, or nutritional modifications that will help attenuate the symptoms experienced with autoimmunity.
